Guess Posts Higher Earnings


Icahn hikes stake in Federated Department Stores, plus more stocks in the news Thursday

Guess (GES) Posts $0.99 vs. $0.57 fourth quarter (Dec.) earnings per share (EPS) on an 11% same-store sales rise. Ups fiscal year 2008 EPS guidance to $3.30 to $3.40 EPS on $1.45 billion to $1.5 billion revenue. Sets 2-for-1 stock split.

Federated Department Stores (FD) Carl Icahn, in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, reports increased holding in Federated of 6.8 million shares from 2 million shares.

RealNetworks (RNWK) Posts $0.05 fourth quarter adjusted EPS vs $0.04 loss on a 50% revenue rise. Posts $0.22 fourth quarter GAAP EPS. Says gross margin narrowed year over year. Sees 2007 revenue of $540 million to $560 million and GAAP EPS of $0.18 to $0.23.

Applebee's (APPB) Posts $0.25 vs. $0.27 fourth quarter EPS on 1.1% lower system-wide domestic comparable sales and 1.4% lower comparable sales for company restaurants.

Baker Hughes (BHI) Posts $1.02 vs. $0.75 fourth quarter EPS on a 23% revenue rise.

Medimmune (MEDI) According to pivotal research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, children under 5 years of age immunized with the company's FluMist reported 55% fewer cases of influenza vs. children who received a flu shot.

Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) Plans to offer $1 billion Convertible Senior Notes due 2014 through offerings to qualified institutional buyers; to buyback up to $400 million worth of stock contemporaneously with the closing of the sale of Notes.

Avon Products (AVP) Expects annualized benefits from its Product Line Simplification and Strategic Sourcing Initiative to exceed $400 million when fully realized.

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Posts $0.08 fourth quarter loss vs. $0.08 loss despite sharply higher revenues. Sees first quarter operating loss of $6.5 million to $7.0 million and net loss of $7.0 million to $7.5 million.
