Alcohol: More important than the Net?

Stephen Baker

What would communications be without alcohol? Maybe we'd all keep our secrets. Just imagine you work at Apple, a secretive place if there ever was one, and (probably over drinks) you confide a few details about the coming iPhone to Digg's Kevin Rose. Next thing you know, you're watching him drinking beers on his show, and saying, should I spill the beans? Should I? Sure, my source told me not to tell anybody, but it's OK if I talk about it a little to a global audience on my show, swig, swig... Isn't it? His words spread in a hurry.

Sure alcohol makes us dumb, but wouldn't we be more ignorant without it? I, for one, wouldn't [have read] that the new iPhone will have a pull-out keyboard, two batteries, and four to eight gigs of flash memory. And if you consider how alcohol catalyzes mating and reproduction, a case can be made that in the realm of super liquids, it's right up there with milk.

You still don't know that the iPhone "will" have two batteries, etc. You only hear it will. Kevin could be wrong :-)

you can be just as talkative without drinking alcohol. Maybe things would be a lot better if we weren't so stupid to drink tons and then spill cause we "think it's okay". you basically said you need people to drink for you to be informed....wow. that's a smart way to find your information by listening to intoxicated people and being intoxicated yourself

PXLated you let the cat out of the bag. Kevin is not wrong and neither are you.

Alcohol does make you more ignorant and barbarous, it completey stops the brain from working!

To the posters -

You're typical "mama-told-me-so" fellas. Someone may actually write stuff with informative value if they've had a shot or two - to the Internet.

Yeah, everybody knows the dangers in alcohol. Your comments are dull, like don't try to touch an issue that's tabu. Then you walk away, having corrected someone because your-mama-told-you-so.

Did you ever think about the other side, could there possibly be an additional value there, beoynd the tabu.. maybe you've learned something from the net in the past that someone else wrote while drunk, but hadn't done that otherwise. You'll never know, neither will your mama.

Brilliant post! That's a side of the argument that no one ever thinks off.
