Google Acquires JotSpot

Heather Green

Joe Kraus and Graham Spencer just can't seem to stay away from search engines. The co-founders of Excite started thinking about Jotspot, the business Wiki startup, three years ago. Basically, Joe writes in his blog that Google's moves in buying Writely, launching Google Groups, and Google Spreadsheets fit in with JotSpots' "vision for how groups of people can create, manage and share information online."

I think JotSpot was onto something--getting businesses to use wikis to collaborate. But it definitely feels like it's a long row to hoe. While the consumer side of Web 2.0 has taken off, companies still have to grapple with how they share data and adapt to these new kinds of communication tools.

I think we will see a big learning curve for JotSpot and their business model. Google has been taking alot of chances lately. Time will tell.
