As Nintendo continues to push the Nintendo Wii hype train down the tracks towards retail, they have quietly let Baten Kaitos' prequel slip onto shelves for the GameCube. As one of the system's final big releases, it does have some appeal, especially to those who have played the original game. The card battle system is still very good, and the game has a better emphasis on character design and storyline. However, some of it feels like it's borrowed from the first game, including various play mechanics and several locations. It's not the strongest prequel out there, but there's still something worth exploring within these Origins.
