Yakuza

Dead Oyabuns, robberies, and meat buns are all the rage in Sega's Yakuza, a 3D beat-em-up that takes you into the very heart of Japan's criminal organization, or something like that. The game's story, penned by novelist Seishu Hase is quite the "page turner" and the developers have done a remarkable job with the cut scenes, but unfortunately, the gameplay just isn't up to speed, nor is the soundtrack, which is about as moving as white noise. Killing bad guys is very boring thanks to the lackluster mechanics, which never evolve past mindless button mashing, and the cheap AI doesn't help matters. I still appreciate Yakuza for what it is, but I can't justify spending $50 for it.
