Yahoo mail sees spam everywhere

Stephen Baker

I've bellyached here about the gobs of spam I get in my Hotmail account. So, to be fair, I should mention that Yahoo mail is routing far too many valuable emails into spam folder. Just today I got found there an email from Howard Kaushansky, ceo of Umbria Communications. On Tuesday it was an email from a BusinessWeek colleague using the corporate mail account. The question: How many spams will we tolerate in our inbox to avoid sending false positives into the spambox? For me, quite a few.

Funny thing, just this week as I waited and waited for people to answer my e-mails, I became convinced that my own mailings were landing in their spamboxes. Either that or they were seeing my slightly ridiculous sbaker8380 tag and assuming it was spam. So I paid $35 for a more serious sounding email address. Wouldn't you know? I bought it from Yahoo.

(For anyone wondering about 8380, those are two years the Phillies won the National League pennant. Given this week's swooning performances against the Mets, it's highly unlikely that 06 will ever be added to the address.)

spam and other abuses

Yup, I've also paid for my yahoo email address some time ago, mostly just to remove the annoying Yahoo ads at the end of the message and their spam protection really sucks, gmail is soooo much better!

Yes, but I can't stand Gmail's interface. My son says I just don't get it, and I guess I don't. But I spend way too much time trying to figure out how to do simple things like reply to all...

I am having problems with too much spam in Gmail making it to my inbox. I actually set up another account, and have my messages forwarded but the spam is now being forwarded too. I think 48 spams in 12 hours is a tad bit excessive. And I am not sure what to do.

lol yeah it takes some time to get used to gmail too, old yahoo mail interface, (before they changed it the new and buggy one) was more like all the mail we used to, gmail changed it all a bit to the "google style"

Try using your Gmail account with MS Outlook Express. The configuration is easily done. Then add an e-mail filter such as Qurb. You do the fine-tuning. -- Will

I've switched almost exclusively to hotmail. Yahoo's spam control is abysmal. In the last 5 months I've received 8,147 pieces of spam that weren't identified as spam. In the spam folder? 576. That's an awful hit ratio.
