Inside the Upfronts With the NYTimes

Heather Green

I'm not the TV addict I was at 13, so I am unsure why I am so fascinated by NYTimes reporter Virginia Heffernan's live blogging of the TV network's Upfront presentations. (Where the big channels present their lineups for the fall).

Maybe because I find it funny....One tidbit: "Keith Turner, the president of sales and marketing for NBC Universal, shows up in pinstripes, a three-piece suit. Jokes about how hot Amanda Peet is. His smile is predatory. Time goes by so slowly."

....Or because I'm fascinated by how she's blogging live in places that just can't have Wi-Fi. (Radio City Music Hall, Avery Fisher Hall). Is she using Verizon wireless broadband??

time goes by slowly. reminds me of other riveting biz presentations i've been to. at least she's got something to do while sitting there.

I read that line about the predatory smile and time passing slowly about four times. At first I thought she was trying to say that men have had predatory smiles for a long time, and she was tired of waiting for them to outgrow them. I think that wait would exhaust the batteries on her laptop.

By the way, what signals a predatory smile? I'm sure I've been guilty of more than a few myself. Is it slightly exposed canines? Or something malicious in our eyes?
