Heading to Orlando

Stephen Baker

I'm flying to Florida this morning to give a speech at the enormous Florida Educational Technology Conference. Theme of the speech, surprise surprise: Math and Society. I'll provide the point of view of D student in algebra who, as luck would have it, finds himself laboring this year in the math industry. Afterwards, my wife and I are spending the weekend in St. Augustine. If you know any good eateries or hidden paradises in that region, please let me know.

Small world, I'll be in St. Augustine this weekend as well. I sent you a direct e-mail re: the weekend.

Is this your first FETC? It's quite a conference. I haven't been in six or seven years, but I have a lot of colleagues who go each year. It's definitely one of the leading state-level edtech conferences around.....

Stephen, since some of my friends online hail from the Orlando area, I blogged your request and got this very warm reply:

[*jumps up and down*] I live in St. Augustine!! And there are tons of great places to eat here!...a few I recommend..Barnacle Bill's, Columbia, Gypsy Cab Company, The Oasis Restaurant, Raintree, A1A Ale Works, Holly's Diner(REALLY good breakfast / lunch) You should have no problem getting directions to any of the places I mentioned. Just ask anyone-we're all pretty friendly! *grins*

P.S. If you really want to "put on the Ritz", try 95 Cordova, which is in the Casa Monica Hotel downtown. A bit pricey but worth it! The chefs there are world class!

The St. Augustinite, Janice, that made the recommendations, blogs here: http://360.yahoo.com/profile-5ZeMmfI7eqjg3UaSQd2wQY0sOpO0jY9XQg--?cq=1
