Chinese Bloggers Shut Down

Heather Green

Reuters has a story about China shutting down two bloggers who are critical of the government. Looks like this is happening now because the national parliament is meeting.

Update March 15: The Wall Street Journal reports this was a hoax. The bloggers shut themselves down and left a cryptic message that the BBC took to mean government censorship. The BBC made a basic wrongfooted mistake: It didn't reach the bloggers before posting the story, the Journal reports.

The Journal reports "Reporters Without Borders issued a correction to its statement on March 9, calling the incident a "joke." But Julien Pain, who runs the organization's Internet Freedom Desk, says he doesn't think Mr. Wang understands the consequences of the incident."
