A Shortage Of Wages, Not Workers

Jeremy Quittner misses the most important point about illegal immigration in "The Visa Maze" (Fall, 2005). Business owners' arguments that there are no American workers willing to work for them sidesteps the question. It is not necessarily the work that is the problem, but the wages. If these small businesses paid a decent wage, American workers would do the work. Rather than turning to cheap immigrant labor, these business should try to come up with alternate ways to hire American workers that benefit everyone.
