The Dollar Weakens As Asian Currencies Rise

MARKETSCOPE : The dollar's value slid early Thursday, as investors took profits amid a rumor that a high-level meeting was about to take place in China about the country's currency.

Dollar index was down 0.06 to 92.27 level.

The Chinese yuan and Japanese yen rose a bit, and the dollar was down at 118.76 yen. The yen was also boosted by the stock market rally that carried the Nikkei stock average up 1.70%.

The euro was up a bit at $1.1680, despite a report that Eurozone September production unexpectedly fell 0.4%. The sterling was up a bit at $1.7187, even as U.K. October retail sales rose 0.2%.
