Is Innovation a Special Interest?

Michael Mandel

The media seems stuck with the assumption that 'support for innovation' equals 'pandering to the tech industry.' Just look at the media coverage (or the lack thereof) of the "Innovation Agenda" announced by the Democrats last Tuesday.

As far as I can tell, neither the New York Times or the Washington Post covered the announcement, though they had plenty of space for Bob Woodward.

San Jose Mercury News started its piece this way: "Making a play for tech-industry support heading into the 2006 midterm elections,..."

The San Francisco Chronicle wrote :"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, hoping to develop an agenda that will help the Democratic Party retake power in the House.."

Framed as a politial my next post, I will analyze the agenda itself.
