The commoditization of knowledge spreads.

The commoditization of knowledge has been a great surprise to many who thought knowledge would forever be a competitive advantage to the U.S., Europe and Japan. Not so, as knowledge industries and activities are increasingly outsourced to India, China and Eastern Europe.

Now Jason Kotte writes about the commoditization of something else--breaking news. With RSS feeds, google news, sites such as del.icio.us, and traditional news organizations, everyone gets breaking news pretty much at the same time. Everyone sees new things simulataneously.

So what is the value of being first online today? The best increasingly trumps the first.
