Lessons from the Business Case Competition

"Building inclusive leadership, one student and one executive at a time"

Business Week Online has partnered with The Executive Leadership Council and its affiliate, The Next Generation Network (NGN), to highlight pathways to inclusive leadership. Monthly columns that run from 2005-2006 during the Council's yearlong 20th anniversary celebration will examine what an MBA can do for you and other lessons learned in the corporate vineyard by the nation's top black executives. Founded in 1986, The Executive Leadership Council is the nation's premier leadership organization of the most senior African-American corporate executives in Fortune 500 companies.

Mentoring:

What an MBA can do for you (Note: This is a play on words. The columnist can either list 5-10 leadership skills an MBA student can or should learn from their MBA experience or the columnist can profile a current or former MBA student they mentored to highlight the value of that experience in their own development and what they learned from the MBA)

Lessons Learned: highlights personal leadership traits, skills, self-mastery skills that the executive learned in his or her career, how, and the connection between their college experience and that lesson learned. May also suggest books to read or other development mechanisms.
