First Blogger to Make the NYTimes OP-Ed Page?

Heather Green

Steve Rubel at Micro Persuasion flags Jeremy's Blachman's op-ed in the NYTimes today and wonders whether he's the first blogger to make it there.

Congrats to Blachman, but Rubel's distinction seems like a false one. Larry Lessig is a blogger and the Times has published his writings and the blogger, oh, and lawyer Richard Posner got a review in the NYTimes Book Review. Those are just a couple of names I can think of. What may be different is it's a blogger writing about blogging. But with more people blogging, it's harder to see an us and them divide. Of course, what that means for blogging is still to be determined.

Maybe Rubel was just joking around about the NYT story. I'm not going to try to fool you Heather.

And as I pointed out in my comment on Steve's post, Joi Ito published an op-ed 3 weeks ago about the 60th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The article is: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/07/opinion/07ito.html?ex=1281067200&en=e6b897762b09f727&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss, my own post is: http://blog.softtechvc.com/2005/08/joi_on_the_60th.html.

Thanks Jeff for the pointer and Jim, maybe that's true! I left a comment at Rubel's site. Need to go check whether/what he replied.

No, there have been many; before the last election, as I remember, they practically handed the page over the bloggers.
