Spam and Google?

Heather Green

Huh. I have no expertise to be able to judge whether this is a crying wolf scenario, but the Blog Herald lays out a pretty empassioned plea for Google to clean up spam blogs, which it says are often hosted using Google's blogging technology. The risk, they write is that blogosphere goes through a serious downturn over the next couple of years, as legitimate blogs get crowded out of search results by spam blogs or deluged by spam comments.

Duncan Riley writes. "Recent reports indicate that at times up to 90% of the pings to services such as Weblogs.com and Technorati are from spam blogs."

So are things as worrisome as they write? It's a well argued post. Via RSS Weblog

On keywords I'm intersted in, a large number of blogs returned by Technorati are spam blogs often hosted on blogger.com. It's very annoying to me and it reduces the usefulness of blog aggregator services. Along with Google/Blogger.com, Technorati would do well to develop technology to filter out and ban spam blogs from their search results.
