Bill Gates gave an interview to the blog Engadget and it's suddenly news. It shouldn't be, really. It simply makes sense for a company to figure out what the influential blogs are and include them in the group of publications the company talks to regularly.

On a tangent, we have gotten some flak for playing up the impact of blogging in our recent magazine story. The line of criticism is that blogs are simply an evolution of publishing and community that online services have made possible, lo, these many decades. Yes. Exactly. And the most important thing, it seems to me, about evolution is learning to adapt.

Heather, I'd dismiss such flak! Your cover story feature evangelizes a topic in exactly the right way.

I'm guessing that the primary audience it's aimed at - print-edition business readers who don't yet do blogs - is precisely the audience to whom such messaging should be directed. Such a story appearing in a magazine as influential as BW surely must bring home the message in a highly credible way.

I doubt that the already-aware is the primary audience.

I co-present a bi-weekly podcast on business, communication and technology. Today's show, recorded a few hours ago, includes discussion about the cover story, who we think it's targeted at and its potential impact.

This blog is starting to get annoying. How many times do we need to see an example of how a company is using blogs as advertising? I dont feel like this thing is keeping me on the cutting edge of blogs. I am surely not blog - spotting. I am blog - vomiting.

Make this blog fresh. It is a new blog, but it already is getting old.

Dejanews and email threads seem to me to be infinitely more useful. They have subjects - duh!

Blogs are just a stream of consciousness that go on and on -who has time to read them?

I just don't get it.

I read the full business week article on blogs, but am still confused about the difference between blogs and just plain old websites.By the way I live in Qatar and time here is 4:43pm not 9:43 pm like your system stamped on my comment.

Hello Mazen,

I believe the answer to the timestap question is that the software translates it for the regions where the comment would be posted. Here's a great link explaining the difference between blogs and plain old web sites.

A brief rundown, though, is that with blog technology, you can update your posts quickly, without knowing HTML. And that means that people reading your blog can also react quickly to them, so that essentially you start having this great big open discussion.
