DuPont Posts Higher Earnings


DuPont (DD) posted 96 cents, vs. 66 cents despite a 4.6% revenue drop. The company reaffirms its $2.65 to $2.85 2005 earnings per share forecast. It expects current market trends for energy-related costs to increase raw material costs significantly more than expected.

ImClone Systems (IMCL) posted 33 cents, vs. 76 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 22% revenue drop. The company notes first-quarter 2004 earnings per share included a one-time "catch-up" amortization effect of about $43 million associated with a $250 million milestone payment received last year.

JDA Software (JDAS) posted 2 cents first-quarter earnings per share, vs. a 2-cent loss (GAAP) despite a 8.9% total revenue decline. The company projects higher software sales in the second quarter, which combined with cost structure should yield solid earnings per share growth.

Chipmaker Altera (ALTR) posted 17 cents, vs. 15 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 9% sales rise. UBS Financial reportedly upgrades to buy from neutral.

Monster Worldwide (MNST) posted 17 cents, vs. 11 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 35% revenue rise. The company sees 19 cents to 20 cents second-quarter earnings per share and 85 cents to 90 cents 2005 earnings per share.

Fresh Del Monte (FDP) posted $1.00, vs. 81 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 17% sales rise. The company reiterates $2.30 to $2.40 2005 earnings per share guidance. It expects increasing costs to continue to create a challenging operating environment in 2005.

CKE Restaurants (CKR) posted 12 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share, vs. a 90-cent loss on 4.9% and 4.4% higher same-store sales at company-operated Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, respectively, and 11% higher total revenue. The company initiates a 4 cents quarterly dividend.

Medco Health Solutions (MHS) posted 47 cents, vs. 38 cents first-quarter earnings per share (GAAP) despite a 1.8% revenue drop. The company continues to see 2005 earnings per share (GAAP) of $1.94 to $2.03.

Bebe Stores (BEBE) and Amazon Services Inc., a unit of Amazon.com (AMZN), announce that Amazon Services will provide technology platform, fulfillment center, and multi-channel call center operations for bebe.com.

Schlumberger (SLB) posted 86 cents ,vs. 37 cents first-quarter earnings per share on an 18% revenue rise. The company says increasing activity levels around the world reflect a growing response to a current narrow margin of excess production capacity.

Swift Transportation (SWFT) posted 26 cents, vs. 8 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 19% revenue rise.

Chubb (CB) posted $2.22, vs. $1.61 first-quarter operating earnings per share on slightly higher net written premiums, lower combined loss, and expense ratio. The company says first-quarter results puts it on the path to exceed its 2005 operating earnings per share guidance of $7.60 to $8.00.

L-3 Communications (LLL) posted 86 cents, vs. 65 cents first-quarter earnings per share on a 29% sales rise. The company sees $4.00 to $4.05 2005 earnings per share.
