Asian markets were higher on Monday. The Nikkei 225 gained 31.20 points, or 0.27%, to close at 11,792.30. Shares in Tokyo gained ground for a third straight trading day. NEC, Advantest, Kyocera, and Honda all went up. Nitto Denko jumped 2.3% after Merrill Lynch upgraded the stock to buy. Precision machinery maker Dainippon Screen also surged 4.8% after Nomura Securities upgraded the stock's rating to "2". On the downside, Japan Airlines fell 2.2% after the government announced an investigation into the state of safety checks at the airline.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng was closed today due to Easter Monday holiday.
Canada's benchmark TSX/S&P lost 50.73 points, or 0.53%, to close at 9,482.37.
