Google Declines


Google (GOOG) shares dropped Friday after UBS Financial initiated coverage with a reduce rating.

Sears, Roebuck (S) shares gained after Vornado Realty reportedly acquired a 4.3% stake in Sears in the third quarter.

VaxGen (VXGN) was awarded an $877.5 million contract to manufacture and deliver 75 million doses of the new anthrax vaccine by Health & Human Services. CIBC World removes its speculative flag on their sector perform rating and sets a $25 target.

Goodyear (GT) sees 19 cents to 21 cents third-quarter earnings per share on record sales of about $4.7 billion. The company cites improved pricing, product mix, and higher unit volume.

Merck (MRK) said it was vigilant in monitoring, disclosing cardiovascular safety of Vioxx. The company disagrees with data published in The Lancet indicating that Vioxx should have been withdrawn from market several years earlier.

Barnes & Noble (BKS) will spin off its GameStop Corp. subsidiary, which will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 index after the close of trading on Nov. 12, replacing Three-Five Systems, which is being removed due to its low market cap.

Cardinal Health (CAH) posted 49 cents, vs. 63 cents first-quarter earnings per share despite a 16% revenue rise.

Hewitt Associates (HEW) posted 36 cents, vs. 33 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share (excluding items) on a 9% revenue rise. The company sees 30% to 32%% revenue growth for the first-quarter of fiscal 2005.

WebMD (HLTH) posted 11 cents, vs. 9 cents third-quarter earnings per share before items on a 20% revenue rise. The company sees 13 cents fourth-quarter earnings per share (before items), on revenue of $305 million to $310 million. It plans to sell about 10% of the equity of WebMD Health in an IPO.

Univision Communications (UVN) posted 21 cents, vs. 16 cents third-quarter earnings per share on a 49% revenue rise. It sees lower-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings per share of 18 cents to 20 cents. CIBC World downgrades to sector perform from sector outperform. S&P reiterates accumulate.

Novell (NOVL) says Vice Chairman Chris Stone is leaving the company.

Nvidia (NVDA) posted 15 cents, vs. 4 cents third-quarter earnings per share on a 6.1% revenue rise, in the absence of year-ago charges. The company sees fourth-quarter revenue flat to slightly higher vs. the third quarter.

Chiquita (CQB) posted lower-than-expected 5 cents, vs. 9 cents third-quarter earnings per share (excluding items) despite a 5.4% revenue rise.
