Economists will vet Bush speech for clues on job growth

Will President Bush take on the role of economic seer in his acceptance speech tonight? Research outfit Action Economics says his speech may contain some clues about the August employment report, scheduled for release tomorrow. Action says the President is likely to receive a briefing on tomorrow's employment report before giving the evening speech. According to Action? market strategists, if there are any surprises, he may adjust his comments. Financial-market players overnight will find it hard to resist the urge to "reverse engineer" what the numbers look like if the President says anything that is either notably exuberant or notably cautious about job creation, notes Action--whether or not the comments are actually linked to the report.
