Bear Stearns Is Positive on Gateway, Dell

Bear Stearns raised its PC industry growth forecast, which is a positive for Gateway (GTW), Dell (DELL), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Apple Computer (AAPL).

Analyst Andrew Neff says reflecting healthy PC shipments in the second quarter, he raised the 2003 PC forecast from 6% to 9% unit growth. He says healthier-than-expected second-quarter shipments were due to a stable spending environment and strong demand for notebooks.

Neff thinks a healthier PC shipment rate is positive news for all PC vendors, and given the continued strength of mobile PCs, he also thinks Synaptics (SYNA), a leading supplier of touchpads, could be a play on strong notebook demand.
