FOUNDED by the Bank of England and British clearing banks in 1945 as Industrial & Commercial Finance Corp.

MERGED with Finance Corporation for Industry in 1973 before becoming a true venture-capital firm and being dubbed Investors in Industry in 1982, thus the 3i moniker.

LISTED in 1994 in one of the largest flotations on the London Stock Exchange that year, with an initial market capitalization of $2.2 billion.

INVESTMENTS in 2,700 companies currently: 60 in U.S., 30 in Asia, and the remainder in Europe. 3i and its predecessors have invested in a total of more than 15,000 companies.
