June, 1949, in Tunis. Uncle is the late independence hero and President Habib Bourguiba.

1975

Sets up Carthago Films outside Tunis. Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars made there.

1978

Meets Leo Kirch, who buys rights to Zeffirelli's La Traviata, which Ben Ammar produces.

1983

Produces miniseries with Italy's Silvio Berlusconi. By 1989, the pair set up film company Quinta Communications. Kirch buys 10% stake in Quinta in 1993.

1995

Plays key role in $1 billion investment in Berlusconi's television interests by Kirch, Saudi Prince Alwaleed, and others.

1997

Advises Alwaleed on $400 million investment in Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

1999

Arranges for Berlusconi, Alwaleed, and Lehman Brothers to invest $1.3 billion in KirchMedia and for Murdoch's BSkyB to invest $1.4 billion in Kirch-owned pay TV.
