Year of the iPod?

Apple Computer's new iPod MP3 player is a hit with Apple aficionados -- many of whom would like to share the riches with their misguided brethern who still use Windows PCs.

Of the 180 readers who replied to our Apr. 2 online Reader Survey some 80% have used the iPod. That includes virtually all of the 82% who identify themselves as owners of Apple computers. Logically, in light of that, 62% of respondents to the survey said they would be willing to buy a Mac in order to use the iPod, and 74% said they would be willing to pay $400 to $500 for the music player.

A smaller majority -- 52% -- said they think Apple should sell versions of the iPod that work with other computers, a step that might boost Apple's revenues and the popularity of its products.
