Good Things in Small Packages

By David Braverman In our last stock screen (see BW Online, 10/4/01, "Bigger and Better"), we presented the 10 stocks with the largest market capitalizations that carried S&P's highest STARS ranking of "5", meaning that analysts expect them to be among the best performers in the next six to 12 months.

This week's screen visits the other end of the spectrum: small-cap stocks. Small-caps, generally speaking, are those with market capitalizations of less than $1 billion. Small-cap stocks tend to grow faster than larger capitalization companies. But they can be highly volatile.

The following 14 stocks are ranked 5 STARS by S&P analysts. Each of these companies has a market capitalization below $1 billion.
