Goldman Sachs cut estimates for IBM Corp. (IBM).
Analyst Laura Conigliaro says the June/July quarter for enterprise systems companies is showing similar or deteriorating trends compared with the March/April quarter. Although the U.S. is showing sporadic signs of stabilization, this is occurring at very low levels. Among incremental negatives this quarter are Europe, particularly the U.K., spending by tech companies, currency effects, and even deeper pricing discounts. In addition to EMC's major estimate cuts (following its preannouncement), Conigliaro also cut estimates for Brocade, IBM, Network Appliances, and Sun Microsystems. For IBM, the analyst cut her $4.77 2001 EPS estimate to $4.73 and her $5.50 2002 forecast to $5.45. She maintains IBM on Goldman's recommended list.
