Cell-Phone Outfits Shouldn't Need Protection

"Hanging up on private cell companies" (Asian Business, Mar. 5) overlooks the fact that the government bailed out private cell companies last year by drastically reducing their license fees and developing a revenue-sharing formula.

Instead of asking for protection, private cell operators should consider moving up the value chain by providing better services and more add-on features such as e-mail and voice-mail and concentrating on new technologies like 3G.
