A Biz of Her Own

More women are becoming entrepreneurs, but fewer are turning to franchises to do it. So says Women in Franchising Inc., which analyzed the latest government research on 251 such organizations. In 1990, 11% of franchises were woman-owned, and 23.9% were jointly owned by a man and woman. By 1995, those numbers dropped to 8.5% and 15.5%, respectively. Automotive and motel franchises had the fewest women owners: less than 1%.
