Cutting Gen X Some Slack

CUTTING GEN X SOME SLACK

The much-maligned slackers of Generation X are starting to get some respect. In the latest survey from Key Corp., 69% of small-biz owners gave Gen-X employees low marks for work ethic, but 75% said they are educated as well as--or better than--previous generations. Also, 59% said Gen-X workers are at least as competent as older workers, up from 48% two years ago. Why the change? Small businesses are more wired--89% of small-biz execs reported using PCs, up from 69% a year ago--and younger workers are more comfortable with computers. Three in five business owners admitted Gen Xers have better technical skills than earlier generations. EDITED BY EDITH UPDIKE
