MANY BEAN COUNTERS, ONE POD

It's no use linking computer hardware in a network if your software can't network, too. In June, way behind competitors Peachtree Software and Best!Ware, Intuit finally added networking features--which let many users work with the same program and data at the same time--to its popular accounting software, QuickBooks Pro. All three companies' programs share some features, like passwords to block off such sensitive fInancial data as payroll, but also differ. Peachtree's Complete Accounting is comprehensive and dirt cheap at $199 for unlimited "seats" (simultaneous users). Best!Ware's M.Y.O.B. Premier Accounting runs $499 for three seats, $99 per extra seat. QuickBooks Pro is $599 and capped at five seats.EDITED BY EDITH UPDIKE
