Investment Figures of the Week
COMMENTARYConcerns that slower economic growth overseas could drag down corporate profitsin the U.S. kept markets jittery. But the Dow Jones industrial average gained2.5% and the Standard & Poor's 500-stock index rose 2.6% as the markets--andinvestors--recovered from the shock of Oct. 27. The week's stunner came on Nov.3, when the Dow jumped 232 points, or 3.1%. Among equity mutual funds, thePrudent Bear fund's short positions in tech and consumer debt stocks helpedkeep it the leader in four-week total return (see below).
