COMMENTARYThe stock market continued its wild roller-coaster ride. Concerns overvaluation kept volatility high, with the Dow Jones industrial averageplummeting as much as 177 points during the day on Aug. 22, only to regain 170points before the close. A rise in consumer confidence and existing-home salesfanned inflation fears and kept the bond market on edge, with the 30-yearTreasury closing at 6.65%. On Aug. 27, the Dow took an 84-point tumble, thenclosed up 5 to clock in at 7787. The index fell 2.9% for the week ending Aug.27.
