COMMENTARYThe bond rally came to an abrupt halt on Aug. 1, when fears of strongereconomic growth led to the worst one-day rout in several years. But stocksresisted the uptick in rates, and the major market indexes all climbed to newhighs. Technology investors made out well: IBM and Intel also set record highs. The outlook--and stock price--of long-suffering Apple Computer brightenedconsiderably on Aug. 6 when software giant Microsoft said it will take a $150million stake in the company. Apple shares jumped over $6, a 32% one-day gain.
