BIG BANKS THINK SMALL

The SBA's annual analysis of banks lending more than $1 billion to small business found loans under $100,000 to be the fastest-growing segment--up 30%. Other findings: The number of billion-plus lenders rose by 4, to 27; total small-business lending increased 24%, although continuing consolidation in commercial banking, such as Wells Fargo's acquisitions, pumped up the numbers.
