Investment Figures of the Week

COMMENTARYThe Dow Jones industrials finally blasted through 6000. The Dow made itshistoric close on Columbus Day, when many investors were enjoying a longweekend. But as traders and investors came back to work, they were buyersrather than sellers. The 6000-mark held, and the Dow went on to 6020.8 on Oct.16. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index also made a new high, as did theover-the-counter market. Fueling the stock surge was better-than-expectedearnings and favorable news on the economic front.MARKET ANALYSIS
