A safe stock, yes. But Procter & Gamble is rarely flashy. Since September, though, shares have jumped 20%. One reason: solid profits. On Oct. 25, P&G said net income was up 13%, to $896 million. On Nov. 1, Chairman John Pepper will meet with analysts. Some expect word on how P&G will use its huge cash flow. Investors looking for a huge stock buyback probably will be let down.
