Investment Figures of the Week

COMMENTARY

What a week! First, Microsoft Corp. unleashes Windows 95. Then, the $10 billion

Chase Manhattan Corp. and Chemical Banking Corp. merger rocks the banking

world. And then Time Warner Inc. jumps into the mergers and acquisitions fray

with its $8 billion offer for Turner Broadcasting System Inc. The stock market

ended the week up 24 points, at 4604.6. Bond traders were kept on their toes as

slowing durable goods orders and sagging retail sales dampened inflation fears,

sending the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond from 6.91% to 6.69%.
