At Ben & Jerry's, A Dollop Of Honesty

AT BEN & JERRY'S, A DOLLOP OF HONESTY

One point overlooked in "Ben & Jerry tell on themselves" (Up Front, June 26) is that the company is still one of the very few in this country that formally reviews its social performance on a regular basis and shares it openly with employees, stockholders, and the general public. As a stockholder, I don't realistically expect a corporation to weather the complexities of running a business without any challenges. I do, however, expect the corporation I hold stock in to be honest about current and future challenges it is facing and about how it plans to deal with them. That is a lesson many corporations could learn from Ben & Jerry's.
