COMMENTARY

A last-minute agreement between U.S. and Japanese trade negotiators sent bond

prices and the dollar climbing on June 28. Yields of benchmark 30-year

Treasuries fell four basis points to 6.51% after the accord was announced, and

the dollar climbed to a one-month high against the yen. U.S. stock prices were

considerably more somber: After climbing to an all-time high of 4590 on June

22, the Dow Jones industrial average dropped to 4543 on June 27, rebounding to

4557 the next day.
