COMMENTARY
A middling week in the financial markets, which were dominated by a decline of
the dollar against major currencies. The greenback's weakness was abetted by
trader sentiment that the Federal Reserve won't intervene in support of the
currency. Bonds also slid steadily. But blue chip stocks performed well, with
the Dow Jones industrial average climbing to all-time highs for two consecutive
days. The Dow closed at a record 3988 on Feb. 16. Favorable earnings news
buoyed stocks.
