COMMENTARY

The stock market regained some of its composure after its 92-point tumble on

Nov. 22. Investors gave thanks for market gains on Friday and Monday, but saw

the fun halted in the next two trading sessions, when the market treaded water.

Momentum-killers included comments by a Federal Reserve official about the

"extremely strong" economy, higher-than-expected consumer confidence levels,

and robust holiday retail sales. The yield on the long bond ended the week a

shade under 8%.
