Now You, Too, Can Be A Programming Whiz

NOW YOU, TOO, CAN BE A PROGRAMMING WHIZ

By now, millions of office workers have mastered spreadsheets and word-processing packages. But most avoid the more advanced features of those programs, such as macro languages. These programming commands can automate routine tasks, but they are often difficult to learn. Prodea Software, based in Eden Prairie, Minn., however, figures it has a better idea.

ProdeaSynergy for Microsoft Office works with Microsoft's best-selling software "bundle," which includes the Excel spreadsheet and Word word-processing programs. ProdeaSynergy allows users to build their own custom routines that call upon several applications--for instance, collecting information from a database, loading it into an Excel spreadsheet, creating a new report in Word, and sending it off via E-mail--by simply connecting icons representing the applications with arrows on the screen. That creates a fresh new icon, saving the routine for later use. ProdeaSynergy for Microsoft Office is priced at $99, and a version that also works with non-Microsoft programs is $295.EDITED BY AMY CORTESE
