A Pager That Beeps When Your Stock Makes A Move

A PAGER THAT BEEPS WHEN YOUR STOCK MAKES A MOVE

For more than 19 million workers on the go, pagers are indispensable for keeping in touch. But perhaps pagers can serve as more than a way to remind harried employees that the boss wants them. Motorola Inc. hopes its new model can alert owners to truly important events.

Motorola's Inflo Information Receiver is just slightly larger than a common pager--the kind that can display a simple phone number. Inflo is designed to display textual information such as stock quotes and sports scores that are provided by many nationwide wireless networks. What's more, Inflo contains technology developed by Dallas-based NewsPager Corp. of America that allows owners to program their pagers to beep only when news of particular interest is received. For instance, it could alert someone that the price of a particular stock had dropped to a specified level.EDITED BY PAUL M. ENG
