The median MMS forecast expects that housing starts likely bounced back to an annual rate of 1.38 million in July, after plunging 9.8% in June, to 1.35 million. The rebound is indicated by the rise in jobs and hours worked in the construction industry. However, the July increase may not be that large, given the rise in unsold homes that builders were carrying at the end of June. Plus, mortgage applications to buy a home have been trending lower.
