THE WEEK AHEAD: FEDERAL BUDGET

Tuesday, June 21

The U.S. government will likely post a $34.8 billion deficit for May, not much better than the $37 billion of May, 1993. Still, the budget gap is set to shrink this fiscal year, which ends in September. The deficit will likely total $200 billion to $212 billion this year, down from $254.7 billion in 1993.
