THE WEEK AHEAD: DURABLE GOODS ORDERS

The MMS economists figure that new orders taken by durable-goods manufacturers increased a small 0.5% in May, after dipping 0.1% in April. The backlog of unfilled orders probably fell 0.6%, after rising 0.1% in April. The weakness in demand reflects slower economic growth, especially in sectors affected by the recent rise in interest rates.
