THE WEEK AHEAD: CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

Total consumer prices likely increased 0.3% in May, after edging up just 0.1% in April. That means consumer inflation is running a mild 2.5% during the year ended in May. Excluding volatile food and energy costs, core prices probably rose 0.3% last month as well, on top of a 0.2% advance in April.
