NO BRASS RING FOR MERRY-GO-ROUND

One more fumble for Leonard "Boogie" Weinglass. Last year, his bid for an NFL expansion team in Baltimore failed. On Jan. 11 came a more critical loss: Weinglass' once-stellar clothing retailer, Merry-Go-Round Enterprises, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The outfit grew to over $800 million in annual sales from a single hippie boutique Weinglass opened in the 1960s, but ran aground trying to keep up with fickle teenage tastes. Weinglass, who for years minded the 1,445-store chain as chairman from his Aspen home, recently stepped in and took over as CEO.EDITED BY KEITH H. HAMMONDS
