SAVE THE AISLE SEAT--FOR AN ON-LINE FILM CRITIC

Tired of being led astray by the "thumbs up" calls of Siskel and Ebert and other professional reviewers? People in the 300,000 U.S. households that subscribe to the America Online computer service can now rely on each other for word of mouth about the latest movies. The new Hollywood Online feature includes an electronic bulletin board, where film fans can discuss the plots, themes, and characters of current flicks, from Rising Sun to Sleepless in Seattle. You can even vote for your favorite movie.

Besides all the movie talk, there are several special attractions such as profiles of a film's actors and directors. And while other computer services, such as CompuServe and Prodigy, already have bulletin boards devoted to movies, America Online also provides still pictures and sound snippets, which can be downloaded to your computer's hard drive. The dozens of photos and sound clips are from a specially selected movie each month. The current feature is Clint Eastwood's action thriller In the Line of Fire. Coming soon to Hollywood Online: Stephen King's Needful Things.EDITED BY PAUL M. ENG
